The Climate Education team supported the OECD x Global Teaching Insights initiative which recognizes that in order to transform how our next generation thinks and acts about the environment and the world requires profound changes in teaching and learning. The OECD, UNESCO and Education International invited teachers to share initiatives and projects on student empowerment around climate action.
Working through challenges presented by COVID-19 and acknowledging the stresses of our educators, the Climate Education team sought out 3 educators to share their insights and took part in developing a plan to implement leading insights in classrooms, education systems and policies. Benny Koh from Nanyang Girls' High
Benny talks about: Helping Students Make Sustainable Choices and Lifestyles
Sustainable practices are taught across Nanyang Girls High School’s entire curriculum and grades (ages 13-16), so that all students can acquire knowledge about the environment, feel supported to make sustainable lifestyles and choices outside of school, and positively influence their wider community.

Heiqal from WWF
Heiqal talks about: “Raising Environmental Awareness to Empower Students for Climate Action”
Schools in Singapore can take climate action with impact by adopting a net zero emissions target by 2050.
This can be done through students learning and applying the concept of calculating and reducing a school’s carbon footprint - a skill that everyone will need, to successfully navigate through life after 2020.
The project can be a scalable method for Singapore’s ground up movement for carbon neutrality - by providing a safe, real world opportunity to take climate action, apply skills and techniques while influencing the values of a community - within the school and outside.
